Satan, a roaring lion.

1Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:  Satan is roaring at us everywhere we turn. Out of our TV’s and radios. Across the internet. In newspapers and magazines. In movies and the music industry. He is a master at creating, confusion, distrust, anger, anxiety, temptation, depression, and distraction.  On a warm summer day, roll down the windows in your car and you will hear him roar, blasting out of the radio of the cars nearby. Walk down any street at night, and you will see the blue glow and flicker of one of his favorite modes of communication.  In turn, go anywhere and you will be hard pressed to find a Bible, or anyone listening to, or talking about, the word of God.

Satan is pictured as a roaring lion by the apostle Peter, roaming about, looking for those he can devour. For a born again Christian, Satan is also a defeated foe. A lion who’s teeth were pulled and claws removed,  at the cross. Colossians 2: 15And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.  Do we then need to be careful of this defeated foe? Yes!  The devil can not, knock us over the head and take what is ours, but  he is both subtle, and bellicose in his approach.  2 Corinthians 11: 3But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.  So Paul is describing Satan as deceiving subtly, and Peter describes him as a roaring lion.  We need to beware of both of his approaches.

Jesus on the other hand is pictured as, The Good Shepherd.  He does not shout out his message from every street corner, neither does he try and deceive us into trusting him. God offers us his free gift of salvation, through faith in his son Jesus, and leaves the decision up to us. How can we protect ourselves from Satan, this crafty deceiver? By listening to less of his roaring, and more of the beautiful voice of our good shepherd, Jesus. As the scriptures say: John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

  1. So refreshing to be reminded we are not defeated if we are in Christ. And a timely reminder for me to be in tune with the voice of Christ…which keeps me from being distracted from the roaring. 😉

    • Hi Cristal, Thanks for your comments. I’m happy to see so many of God’s children encouraging each other and trying to reach the not yet saved.

  2. When Jesus said ALL authority had been given Him in heaven and on earth I wonder how much authority that leaves satan? The best is can do is try and deceive us! Really if the truth were know the gates of hell are probably between our ears:) Thanks for dropping by usually i’m a little more controversial.

Yes, Satan certainly roars in every sphere of life and he leaves his fingerprints everywhere. The church needs to grow in discerning his fingerprints so that we don’t walk right into his traps. Thanks for sharing, Leon.

  4. we should listen to the right ROARING – the roar of the Lion of Judah !

    • Amen to that. Thanks for taking time out to read my posts and commenting.

    • It is important to be mindful of who we are listening to. Good point.

  5. A defeated foe, indeed. He can seem formidable at times, though.

It occurred to me that Christians are said to be “in Christ.” Satan, on the other hand, never to be “outdone” seeks someone to devour so they can be “in him.” The ways he tries to be an equal to God are endless, aren’t they?

You have some fantastic teaching here. I’m glad you stopped by and led me to your blog. I love to have steak with my morning milk. This is a great place to get a hearty breakfast! 🙂

    In Christ,

He is very persistent. It may see like he is winning, but he is not.
      DOWN WITH SATAN!!! 🙂

Our anti God culture being like a devouring lion is food for thought. Today’s main stream media is also like a predatory lion that sucks people into a alternative reality. It twists peoples minds and sense of normalcy , so that they don’t even realise that they have become ensnared.

    • Hi Ken, you are right about main stream media. They don’t call it, Tell lie vision Programming, for nothing.

Here is a short story workritten as a poem), I want to share with you (I am writing this in the comments section.) It’s called “The Lion’s Wrath.” [Representing the wrath of Satan]

In the night of the feast on a bright, sunny day,
A child went on a quest to gather wine and bread for his famibby.
A priest came to the child with an ancient book
Where he gathered the propheies he so delivered to his peoples.
Then, there came a brutish lion; its teeth shstp, its claws engraved with stone.
A bloodthirsty beast consumed with utter hatred and deceit.
Its hymn so outspoken, its tongue consumed with venom.
It once vowed to the Heavely king to tear down the flesh of its prey.

Its roar so grotesque, the villagths would flee to ow mountaintops for shelter.
“Sir!” the priest shouted to the wretched creature. “Dost thou prophesy a message to the land?”
Then the lion smiled awe, replying with an angelic cry,
“This child shall be the richest of the land. Tell her to gather his neighbors to worship me. For it is written, “Ask and ye shall receive!”
Then the child cried out and saith unto the lion,
“Satan! Satan! How must I exchange my precious soul for the price of a mansion?
It is best I am poor in the flesh, and rich in the Spirit, lest I perish at the hands of a wrathful Judge in the river of Hell’s flames!”
Enraged by her resistance, the lion sent a vicious plague on the child. The breath of life slowly slipped away from her limbs.
But soon, he left, and the child was healed by the blood ⠷ the Lamb!

    🙂
